The Maiori Lab is a collaborative team headed the CEO, the CTO, the Design and Development person-in-charge, and our Brand Manager. We discuss what a product needs to be in order to fulfil the technical, market, and brand requirements
When you draw a lamp for Maiori, what is your priority?
First of all, we are looking for a simple form that will stir up an emotion. We believe that we are connected with objects in a special way: there is a bond and a complicity with them. So we try to find these perceptions in both dimensions and shapes. Then, during the prototype development phase, we focus on functionality. The way an object is produced influences its final form.
What types of materials do you prefer?
We work with the materials and the process recommended by experts in the field. Aluminium is often the main material, and we listen carefully to the advice of specialists in order to make the best use of this metal. This gives us greater control over the entire project, followed by direct product improvements thanks to our R&D department. This enables us to rapidly design an object.
How do you understand light when working for Maiori?
Solar lighting has a few specificities, including the detachable module of each lamp, which is designed to recharge the lamp: it is a starting principle with which you have to deal immediately. So when you work for Maiori, you know in advance the questions you will have to ask yourself: do you design an ambient light or a direct light? And at what price? The Maiori team decides that and has a clear idea of how the product will be produced throughout its production cycle. This process allows the designer to concentrate only on the shape and final effect of the object. Maiori offers a great deal of creative freedom here, while defining a precise framework for action.
